Good evening and welcome to Bath England of the 1770's. Bath, at this time was the Las Vegas of England, where the elite mixed with the rabble for a good time! Gambling, sex, going to the spas and taking the waters and dueling could all be had in Bath and one could only hope that what happens in Bath, stays in Bath! Nudge, Nudge, wink, wink. The concept of our production, as the title implies, The Rivals or A day in Bath, is a day at the spa. So the characters are dressed for a day at a spa. In their bath robes and towels, they move in and out of the common room at the Sheridan Spa, from their spa treatments, face masks, baths, gossip, intrigue, a little reading, oh yes even a duel or two. This is the play that created "Malapropism", my favorite Malaprop quotes are "He is the very Pineapple of Politeness" and "She is as contrary as an allegory on the Nile". I now ask you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a day at the spa. As with all the restoration comedies, "The Rivals" is in the public domain.
